Transportation during visit

Main Post:

I'm planning a short trip to Providence to consider whether I want to move there. Is it better to rent a car, or is it better to use Lyft/public transit to get to places? I'd want to see some of the attractions and events, but also check out some neighborhoods. It will take me more than one trip to make the decision, of course.

How is the public transit and what are the options (subway/metro, bus, etc)?

Also, what are some of the best neighborhoods, not necessarily in the city? They can be suburbs. Schools don't really matter since I have no kids.

Thank you!

Top Comment:

The public transit here is bus only and not very practical or reliable. It often takes 20 - 30 minute between buses, even on some of the busier routes. And trying to use it in the suburbs may be vertically impossible.

Rhode Island- how powerful exactly?

Main Post:

How strong is RI exactly? Now that she's gonna in store for money, I expect to see quite a few of her from wallet warriors.

But then is she really as powerful as what she was hyped to be? She doesn't seem like a particularly threatening ship in most scenarios. I know she has a shit ton of tools, but she feels a little underwhelming when powerhouses like Mecklenburg, Wisconsin and Bourgogne exists.

I know she has decent dpm, low detect and high speed but Some of her issues include:

-0 Overmatch

-Improved pen is only 5° better (good but not good enough to lose all your Overmatch)

-1.7 sigma (u have BC dispersion, but for smaller calibre shells with 0 Overmatch, that's below average. For reference, Mecklenburg has 2.05 sigma)

-27mm nose and stern

-subpar armour and HP pool (u get fast heals and underwater cit but still)

Her extra gimmicks are also not exactly game changing:

-9km radar (it's better than nothing but it's hard to get into range considering you're a fragile BB. Even constellation has 10km and Missouri 9.5km)

-T8 massa secs (good but not really impressive at T10. Not good enough to brawl)

Am I missing something about her? Cuz on paper she really doesn't look super impressive. Can someone enlighten me on this matter?

I played 113 battles with Rhode Island. She is extremely strong: good AA, good main and secondary guns, insane speed and radar which means you are a natural predator of DDs.

However you have to play it like a heavy cruiser, not as a BB. You can tank damage only in the endgame, otherwise you will be destroyed.

Rhode Island is a support ship: good against radar cruisers, planes, subs and DDs but very vulnarable against BBs.

Your AP is strong but your caliber is not high enough to penetrate BB armor at long range, so you often spam your excellent HE shells at them.

Why is the smallest U.S. state called “The State of Rhode Island” when it’s clearly **not** an island?

Before the American Rebellion, it was called the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Because it consisted of Rhode Island (which is an actual island) and the plantations on the mainland around the settlement of Providence.

When it became a state it adopted the name "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations". However, it was almost always shortened to "Rhode Island" in everyday usage. In 2020, they eventually decided to change the state's official name to match.

Rhode Island??

Main Post:

i’m from the west coast but daydream about moving to new england one day. while lurking in this sub, i read a few times that rhode island gets referred to as ‘the armpit of NE’. (no offense! i don’t know much about the NE coast, just based on my observation) so i wanted to ask why?

Top Comment:

It's not. RI is a great state. Don't confuse New England shit-posting about other New England states as a real issue; it's just a game.

Besides, as others have said, CT is the armpit.

is Rhodes a tourist trap?

Main Post:

I've been recommended Rhodes for a destination but when I checked out the prices of restaurants in Rhodes and Lindos it was pretty steep. I'm in Sweden and the prices were about the same or often higher than I'd pay here. Is this gouging for the tourists and there's good quality low cost areas for locals or is the island pretty much a tourist trap?

Top Comment:

It’s probably not a tourist trap in the same way that say Santorini is, but it’s undoubtedly a premium destination with the corresponding prices. There will be cheaper places outside the main town but expect it to be expensive in season.
